Our Story & Ethos

Our Story

It was Will who first suggested we make our own soaps when Sarah was worried that we couldn’t afford the soap brands that matched our ethics. By going the home made route, not only could we control exactly what we used but we had a lot of fun experimenting with different smells and patterns! As we learnt more about the craft, it became clear how much bigger companies were profiting and that we weren’t always happy with ingredients they used despite being ‘natural’ brands. So we decided to share our soaps with others who might also appreciate simpler, slower and more purposeful ways of living – and have as much fun with them as we do!

Our Values

Our guiding aims for Fox and Owl Soap Co are honesty, conscientiousness and quality.

Honesty – Our promise to you is that we will always be straightforward and transparent. This includes our ingredients and where we source them, as we believe we should always put ethics before profits. We want to be trusted so we aim to be open about what we use and how we make our soap, and this also means we’re always open to learning and improving our practice.

Conscientiousness – We use a thoughtful approach to sourcing our ingredients, towards packaging and in our business choices. This means we aim to minimise waste with naked products and compostable packaging where necessary, and only buy our ingredients from reputable sources (organic, cruelty free and as local as possible) that we trust. As we continue to embrace mindful living, our future goals include growing and cultivating even more of the ingredients ourselves to further reduce our carbon footprint.

Quality – We always strive to make our products as good as they can be. We handmake the soaps in small batches using tested methods to provide great quality soaps that are moisturising and cleansing. Our other products have all equally been designed to be great at what they do – and to look good too! As this company grew in part from our love for the natural world, the soaps are all inspired by wildlife, and when soaps don’t go perfectly to plan, the leftovers don’t go to waste. You can give some of our ‘wonky bits’ a try (they still work just as well if not quite as pretty) and the profits go to our The Wildlife Trust, a charity organisation protecting the environment and its inhabitants.
